Formal Pre-assessment:

The first step in language instruction is to conduct a preliminary assessment. This free evaluation allows our language training specialists to identify the client’s learning needs. A report details the assessment results, which are then discussed with the client and the instructors. A Learning Style Test may be completed in situations where a learning difficulty may impede second language acquisition.

Program Options:

Programs are customized to meet the needs of beginner, intermediate or advanced clients. Classes are conducted on a one-to-one basis, semi-private (two students), in small (three to four students) and large groups (five to eight students). Ongoing evaluation reports track client progress and illustrate the program’s effectiveness.

Our Training Specialists:

Our team of highly motivated and university trained language specialists use the most effective teaching methods available in the field today. Our teachers understand the complexities of learning a second language and work with clients to set and achieve learning goals.

Our language specialists use authentic language training tasks such as practicing real-time conversation, improving spontaneous speech use, and confidence building activities in the target language. These activities are structured to identify and revise problem areas in the client’s syntactic structures, pronunciation, vocabulary and comprehension.

Phonetics and Diction:

The Académie de Formation Linguistique (AFL) Inc. uses the systematic use of phonetics and diction. Phonetics focuses on the relation of sound and letter to the actual word, allowing for a better understanding of how sounds group together to form words, and improving pronunciation in the target language. These linguistic aspects have helped new language learners improve their performance on tests and interviews. Beginning clients have achieved their “B” levels more quickly. Our system is cost effective and encourages the client to become proficient in their target language as quickly as possible.

Specialized Training for Adults With Learning Difficulties:

The Académie de Formation Linguistique offers specialized language training for clients who have been identified as having learning difficulties. Our SMT method is recognized as an effective tool that promotes second language acquisition for adults who have previously received a negative prognostic report from the Public Service Commission. At AFL, clients receive a customized program that takes into account anticipated learning difficulties.
